While this is a very odd question for someone who is asking about books, i will still like to help you on this since it is a very simple answer.
Hard Cover: These books are printed on paper, which is made from trees and use ink for the printing, though the front cover of the book is made from very hard cardboard so that the cover does not bend, plus are sturdier and heavier than regular books.
Paperbacks: These books, like the hardcovers, are also printed on paper which is also made from trees, (so much for education and nothing for the environment eh!) but the front and the back cover of these books are made from thicker paper, now this isn't essentially thinner cardboard, just thicker paper, sometimes with a glossy or matt finish.
Kindle edition: With the onset of the smartphone age, ever wondered how you could read books on your smartphone, or your tablet or maybe buy one of those Kindle's that amazon hypes so much. They use a special format, since amazon has kindle app for smartphone and tablets and all the book on its store are available on the kindle, the kindle format is digital print. You can use one of these free apps to purchase the book from the store and read it on your device. The thinking behind such a format is that it not only saves the environment, but also saves the hassle of lugging around thick heavy books. Very often as you might have seen, kindle formats are cheaper than print editions as well.
